Assembly tips

  • Parallel first, then series: weld each parallel group first (cells within 0.05V of each other), then connect the groups in series — this avoids large equalizing currents.
  • Spot-weld connections: join cells with spot-welded nickel strip. If you must solder, use plenty of flux and work fast so the cells never overheat.
  • Always wire the balance leads: every series junction must be brought out to the balance connector, otherwise the charger cannot balance the pack and cells will drift or overcharge.
  • Size the nickel strip for current: choose strip width and thickness for your peak discharge current; stack extra strip or add copper braid on high-current runs.
  • Insulate: fit insulating rings (fish paper) around the positive terminals and heat-shrink the finished pack to prevent shorts from knocks and abrasion.
  • Match your cells: use the same brand, batch, capacity and internal resistance throughout — mixing cells shortens pack life and is a safety risk.
